  • FoxTor Firefox extension

    Open source & Linux

When you use the Internet, you leave a trail of information that can be used to track your online activities. FoxTor is a tool that helps prevent this. It provides an easy and convenient way to browse the web using the anonymous and encrypted TOR network.

This offers greater privacy compared to regular proxy services or extensions, and is much faster than using Tor on its own.

Aussie youth bypassing internet filter to view porn with PSP

To be perfectly honest, youth accessing porn isn't something that has just happened since the advent of the internet. Pornographic magazines and movies have long since found their way into the hands of under-aged minors. It just seems like today the media chooses to fault the developers behind the hardware rather than the parents who aren't ensuring they know what they're children are doing in their bedrooms.

Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.

    Monday, November 26. 2007
    smil3y
"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

    Theodore Roosevelt
    1907

His ideas sure have been shot to hell huh.

Can you imagine Bush saying anything remotely close to this today?? He would be impeached by the end of the month! BUT.... run our country into the ground, spend billions and billions of dollars of borrowed money to fund a war that is un winnable, a congress that has all but given up support, united states citizens approval rating at an all time low, this fucking idiot needs to go........NOW!!!!!! Spend spend spend.......... spend spend spend.

    Skype 2.0 beta for Linux

    Friday, November 23. 2007
    Open source & Linux
Skype is currently beta testing version 2.0. This is the same as version 1.4 with the exception of video being added to the list of available features. Upgraded to 2.0 yesterday and found that the video actually works surprisingly nice! Until the video screen started to turn green... I believe it is just the need to upgrade cam drivers, we will see.

The Sellout of Wal-Mart's $200 PC

    Open source & Linux
    .........Go gOS!!

There was a great deal of discussion about it, to be sure -- but it was still overshadowed by the widespread analysis of the fact that Wal-Mart ) Latest News about Wal-Mart sold out of its US$200 Linux PC.

"The manager at an Iowa Wal-Mart said he had 80 to go on sale at 8:00 a.m., and they were all sold at 8:01," noted Anonymous Coward on Slashdot, where more than 600 comments were posted on the topic. "People began lining up at 6 in the morning, and they gave slips to the first 80 in line. I went in at 5 p.m. and people were still trying to buy them."

Shutdown Day: Can you go without your computer for a day?

    Sunday, November 18. 2007
    smil3y

Of course! We all could go without our computer for one day. But, why would we want to? There is some mystique surrounding the internet and the computer itself. When we arrive home from work, before work, while at work. Constantly checking email, news, sports scores. Posting in public forums, blogging, chatting, talking, gaming. Its just fun, who would not agree that meeting new people via the web, chat rooms, forums is not a form of stimulation we all crave?

Microsoft's Bill Hilf Reveals Its Open Source Strategy

    Sunday, November 18. 2007
    Open source & Linux
InformationWeek: I'm curious as to where do these patent claims come from? Microsoft has said there's X numbers of patents that Linux may infringe. Where does that intellectual property come from? Is it based on ownership of Xenix back in the day, is it based on things that are currently in Windows?

Hilf: We published a patent map, which shows, literally, we listed out every number and we listed out every category it fits in and we published that so everyone can see it, because everybody kept asking us, well, what are the patents? (Note: a Microsoft spokesman later clarified Hilf was referring to a categorized tally of possibly infringed patents published earlier this year in a Fortune article, not a detailed list of every specific patent, which Microsoft declined to provide to InformationWeek.)

Vonage ordered to pay verizon 120 million

A recent lawsuit involving Verizon and Vonage has been settled, and Vonage has been ordered to pay Verizon $120 million due to patent infringements. The fine imposed on Vonage means they are edging closer to bankruptcy, with debts mounting to the sum of some $250 million prior to the court's decision, it looks like Vonage may have a tough time remaining in business.

Vista at risk of being bypassed by businesses

    Saturday, November 17. 2007
    smil3y
With Windows 7 due in late 2009 or 2010, many businesses may choose to wait it out rather than make the switch to Vista. According to some analysts, Vista uptake at this point really depends on how good Vista SP1 (due in Q1, 2008) is. If it doesn't smooth over all the problems, companies are much more likely to stick with XP. And that holds especially true for those businesses that follow the every-other-release rule.
