PicLens Firefox plugin

Wednesday, February 27. 2008
Open source & Linux

I heard about this plugin on a podcast and decided to check it out. piclens.com
Half way through the download I received an error message which basically said that they do not support the build of Firefox I was using. Huh? This plugin looks great, and its unfortunate that they decided not to include support for Linux. Anyway, I saw on their site a link to email support, so thats what I did. I suggest everyone else do the same!

My email to PicLens

I was inquiring about whether or not you knew of an error when
installing pic lens on firefox 2.0.0.11? I am receiving an error that
says "not compatible with my build type?" Any other firefox plugin I
use has never given an error such as that. Using ubuntu gutsy, and
kernel 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP i686 GNU/Linux. but that should not
matter. Is it true you are really only supporting windows and mac? If
not, we were curious to know when you have plans to include a version
that is compatible with firefox in general and not choose which builds
to support. Thank you for your time, BTW the plugin looks great, but
have yet to be able to use it.

I was expecting a "form" response, but received the following in less than 24 hours.

PicLens response

Hey xxxxx,

Thanks for your email. Unfortunately at this time we do only support Macintosh and Windows Operating Systems, but we intend to implement a Linux version in the future. Stay Tuned!

Best,

Vista sticker lawsuit becomes class action

Remember the lawsuit filed a little while ago against Microsoft because PCs with "Windows Vista Capable" stickers weren't actually all that Vista Capable? A federal judge just granted that suit class action status, meaning that if you bought a Vista "Capable" PC during the 2006 Holidays, you might be in store to get a little bit of cash back.

As promised at CES, the giant boot of the FCC is hovering over Comcast, ready to make it the FCC's bitch for throttling P2P applications. At a hearing populated by drowsy Comcast shills, FCC Diddy Kevin Martin implied that they're about to fire up the fine canon or block Comcast from throttling P2P traffic, while Dem. commissioner Michael Copps said he wanted super clear rules.

The resolution charges that Vice President Cheney:

1. has purposely manipulated the intelligence process to deceive the citizens and Congress of the United States by fabricating a threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction, as well as
2. fabricating a threat about an alleged relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda, in order to justify the use of the U.S. Armed Forces against Iraq in a manner damaging to U.S. national security interests; and
3. in violation of his constitutional oath and duty, has openly threatened aggression against Iran absent any real threat to the United States, and has done so with the proven U.S. capability to carry out such threats, thus undermining U.S. national security.

Its about time to we force these fat asses to lose a ton! Next time your out in public, take a look to your left and then look to your right, I can surely guarantee you both people you see will be overweight. 65% of this nation!!

A state lawmaker wants to ban restaurants from serving food to obese customers — but please, don't be offended. He says he never even expected his plan to become law.

"I was trying to shed a little light on the number one problem in Mississippi," said Republican Rep. John Read of Gautier, who acknowledges that at 5-foot-11 and 230 pounds, he'd probably have a tough time under his own bill.

US Army struggles with Windows to Linux overhaul

The greatest penguin migration of all time

In multiple media reports over the past two weeks, the US Army has professed its love for the penguin. The Army eventually intends to move from a Windows-based infrastructure over to Linux for its new, roughly $200bn weapons program.

But the Army has largely been prepping new Linux-friendly weapons, vehicles, and devices before the completion of a software network to connect them to its existing Windows-based infrastructure — or blithely, putting the chariot before the warhorse.
